10. Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM Lens

Features

  • Brand: Canon
  • Lens Type: Telephoto
  • Compatible Mountings: Canon EF
  • Camera Lens Description: 300 millimeters
  • Maximum Focal Length: 300

The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS II USM Lens replaces the very popular Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens. If you want to see how this lens compares to its predecessor, read on. Otherwise, I’ll get into the changes and improvements in this review. The primary addition to this lens is a brand new 5-stop image stabilization (IS) system (the previous generation had 4-stops).

This is a big deal for wildlife and sports shooters as effective shutter speeds can be extended by many stops – allowing either much faster shutter speeds for action stopping or lower ISO settings for better image quality.

It also helps in low light – such as shooting indoors with available light or creating smooth background blur at longer focal lengths when handholding the camera with the aperture wide open.

This lens also has a different optical design that includes an aspherical element and an ultra-low dispersion element in place of one of the previous generation’s two UD elements. These are improvements that make this lens sharper than its predecessor.
